Ophthalmic Technician

Position Overview

Are you looking for a role where you can do meaningful work, grow professionally, and enjoy coming to work each day? Do you value patient-centered care, modern technology, and a collaborative clinical environment?

We are seeking team-oriented, driven Ophthalmic Technicians to join our growing clinical care team. This role provides a premier opportunity to practice full-scope technician workflows within a highly respected retina specialty practice. We are seeking patient-focused individuals who value clinical excellence, structural autonomy, and structured peer mentorship.

Location

This position supports our high-volume clinics in Tennessee, with primary hiring focuses in our Nashville, Franklin, and Cookeville offices. This role requires regional travel to different clinic locations up to 1–2 days per week based on staffing and patient volumes. We prefer candidates residing within an approximate 25-mile radius of their primary clinic hub.

Organization Overview

Our organization is a regional leader in subspecialty eye care, combining the robust operational resources of a large network with the personalized touch of a community-focused practice. Our clinic environment is high-energy, modern, and deeply team-oriented.

We are dedicated to helping our staff lead better lives and build sustainable careers, which is why we provide extensive administrative support, top-tier diagnostic technology, and full financial backing for continuing education and professional certification advancement.

What You'll Be Working On

  • Managing efficient, patient-first clinic flows, supporting approximately 3 patients per hour through the initial workup process.
  • Executing technical patient intakes, preliminary workups, testing, medical scribing, and full electronic medical records (EMR) documentation.
  • Performing pre-testing and diagnostic imaging utilizing modern diagnostic equipment (including OCT, Optos, visual fields, and B-scans).
  • Assisting retina specialists directly with hands-on clinical care, minor procedures, and clinical injection support.
  • Collaborating with a multidisciplinary care team consisting of ophthalmologists, fellow technicians, and a dedicated administrative staff.
  • Traveling to alternative local branches (1–2 days per week) to provide exceptional clinical support where needed.

Qualifications

  • Experience Tiers Welcome: We are open to three tiers of candidates—ranging from entry-level/trainable individuals to extensively experienced, certified professionals.

    • Tier 1 (Entry-Level/Trainable): $20.00 – $21.00/hr starting point for candidates without direct ophthalmic experience but possessing strong customer service, broad healthcare, or clinical patient-care backgrounds.
    • Tier 2 (Ophthalmic Experience): Candidates with an optical, optometric, or general eye care background who are ready to transition into high-volume retina specialty care.
    • Tier 3 (Certified/Advanced): Experienced Technicians starting at premium market rates with active certifications (COA, COT, or COMT).
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills to work effectively with an experienced support staff.
  • Flexibility and resilience to thrive in a high-volume, dynamic clinical environment.
  • Clear comfort and willingness regarding regional travel expectations (1–2 days per week).
  • Availability to work standard day shifts (Monday through Friday, starting around 7:00–7:30 AM) with openness to quarterly Saturday clinics if needed.

What's In It For You

  • Competitive Compensation: Tiered hourly pay scale from $21.00 – $30.00 per hour, strictly dependent upon experience level, skill set, and certification status.
  • Sign-On Bonus: $2,000 sign-on bonus paid after 6 months of continuous employment.
  • Certification Support: Fully funded professional certification programs (COA/COT/COMT) to jumpstart and advance your long-term clinical career.
